This month, we are spotlighting Somaya Deed, Data Analyst. Somaya is based in the Israel office and she joined Torii in May 2021.
Somaya, tell us a bit about your career path before Torii. What did you do? What critical moments got you to where you are today?
At the time I joined Torii, I had finished my BSc and graduated from The Faculty of Industrial Engineering & Management in the Technion.
There I specialized in Information Systems, I started to discover the magic of code, Data, and its effect on the product lifecycle and it led me to be confident that this is what I do with my time, it was a challenging but amazing 4 years.
During this period, I loved to combine some extra activities so I decided to join "She Codes" community where I gained some coding skills in Python and Data analysis, then joined as a team member to the Welcome team which will encourage girls to learn code and attempt the High-Tech world, vision that I’m believing in.
What do you do at Torii?
I Joined Torii as the first Data analyst and worked closely with product managers across all teams.
I am in charge of the daily maintenance of the SaaS applications data in the DB, making dashboards using SQL queries to track our KPI’s, escort features to customer’s needs, and providing analysis that helps Torii make the right decision and progress.
What are some things that you and your team are responsible for?
After 6 months of being a one-person team we are now 3 people who arrange the data, and build dashboards and visible analysis to all teams.
We are building a strong Data and Analytics team for constantly growing data, proving how much the data analysis is effective to the product and aiming to make Torii a data-driven company.
Numbers will speak louder soon so stay tuned!
What brought you to Torii? How did it all start?
During my journey to find the first place to start my career I looked for startups.
I wanted to be part of an interesting & growing company that will provide me many extra skills like working across teams, engagement in the prior processes, and of course the people I will work with.
I heard a lot about the founders and the employees so I sent my CV.
After the exam and some interviews, the rest is history.
What do you think makes Torii unique?
Many things make Torii unique, of course the product itself that I believe is a very necessary service, the corporate values that Torii raises partners and not just employees, and the agenda of making people learn and grow.
